03.30.10
I apologize for being away from the project for such a long time (over two weeks!!). But now, that we have shrunk to such a small gorup, it should be easier to manage.
To do by Wednesday April 7th:
(If you can't make it to the meeting, tell me in advance and make arrangement for a make-up meeting with me on a different day. Note that Thursday April 8th I am out for the next field trip
1) Read more abotu your topic, post to the "Weekly Posts" discussion board. http://kreiselmanbiology.wikispaces.com/Weekly+Posts
2) Fill in the Research design table (yellow paper).
- I don't have the electronic version of it, but it should be easy enough to write from scratch, even if not with exactly the same formet).
- This should focus your mind on the possible experiments that might be tried in your field of interest, considering the variables they are manipulating and measuring. It should also help revise your research questions to ones that can actually lead to experiments.
3) Continue to revise your research questions as you read more and think more about your research field.
4) As you read more, you are probably starting to collect original experiment with actual data. Print those and bring them to the meeting.
03.13.10 To do by next Wednesday:
1) Post to the "Weekly Posts" discussion board. http://kreiselmanbiology.wikispaces.com/Weekly+Posts
2) Post your five research questions as they are now. You can mention if there is a particular question of the five that you are more interested in. That will help us help each other to find relevant resources. Post them in the discussion attached to "My FIVE research questions". http://kreiselmanbiology.wikispaces.com/FIVE+research+questions
3) Start thinking about your research design (printed packet I gave you in our meeting).
03.02.10 To Do by next Wednesday:
1) Choose topic (It might change later, but you have to start somewhere)
2) Write firve research questions.
3) Write 1-3 pages about what you learned so far about the topic, including resources that you used.
4) At least two more posts on the wiki - one about your own project, one reponding to someone else in the group.
Specific directions will be posted later this week. ALERT: This particular step is a checkpoint for eligibility to stay in our program. I have to give a final list of honor/non honors by the 5th week report.
02.28.10 Corrections on first posting:
To do by Tuesday 03.02.10:
1st Post: Add a New Post to the discussion that is attached to "Stage1 - Preliminary Search for Topic". Please follow directions for new posts, as we proceed. 2nd post - responding to others. For example: Advise others on their projects, enrich lists of resources of data, articles, movies, etc., comment on the project itself.
- The best way to do this is by replying to existing posts, thereby giving more weight to the thread, and helping to organize the many responses.
- You can also start a "New Post", if you think there is no existing post with a related idea.
02.27.10
1) Go to "Student Expectations", read expectations.
2) Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday March 2nd at the media center in the school library. Please be there as soon as possible. Agenda: Troubleshooting wiki management, including passwords, routines, expectations, etc. If you miss the meeting, you are expected to show up at Mrs. Kreisleman's room on Thursday or Friday during lunch for an update!
Absence from any meeting will cost you credit unless justified with your parents' signature, like any other absence, and unless you showed up at an alternative time.
3) Check the wiki frequently for updates. Soon I will post the timeline and list of due dates for the projects.
